How can I be made bankrupt?
There are a number of ways in which you can be made, or make yourself, bankrupt. All bankruptcy orders are made via a local County Court (click here for details of North East County Courts) after a bankruptcy petition has been presented. Petitions are usually presented:
* by you (debtors petition) to clear debts you can no longer manage
* by your creditors (creditors petition) who are owed at least £750 by you
Bankruptcy petitions are heard in court by an official who is there to ensure that all the required information is presented and that the relevant questions asked. In the event of a bankruptcy order being made against you it is important that you seek advice at the earliest opportunity as even if you refuse to accept the proceedings the order can still be made.
In order to declare yourself bankrupt you will need to prepare all the relevant information and evidence and present this in court at a pre-arranged appointment; for help and support in doing this call us on 0191 2361042 or complete the enquiry form on the left of the page.
